Unity Aikido has taught Aikido to Kids and Adults and to Hobart & Rural schools since opening in the Huon Valley in 1996. We moved up to Hobart from our Huon Valley Dojo and have held classes in several Hobart locations, Broken Hill and Melbourne, where Hanifa Sensei taught at the Ashwood Dojo for over 25 years before moving to Hobart in 1995.
What are the Benefits of Aikido?Aikido gives us the ability to defend ourselves in a way that is safe for us and not aggressive. This builds confidence without turning us into bullies, in fact it reduces bullying because there is no need for it when we have self esteem. Others can't bully us either because we can look after ourselves, also Aikido has a dignity to it that makes us better people if we take it on board and it's pretty cool, too! Try it and you will know.
What do we Learn & How do we Learn?
Aikido is learned through watching skilled domos. by experienced teachers and then trying it out, slowly at first, with a partner, under teacher's supervision. Single skills are combined to make a range of moves we can use in freestyle. Even a few good skills can make a huge difference in our ability to look after ourselves.
Classes instruction includes Self-defence Aikido, Sport Aikido, Japanese Martial Arts Culture, Safe Falling and Tumbling skills, Balance and Coordination skills and Weaponry including Soft Sword games [almost everyone loves these and the moves are good self defence, too.]
